2 Days Seminar
On Biomedical and Hospital Waste Management

A seminar was organized by the Trivandrum Management Association on biomedical waste management. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr Manoj Joshi, IAS, Secretary Health, Govt of Kerala.
President, ISHWM was invited to deliver a key note address on the 26th. The key note address was on “Issues and Concern in HCWM” as a theme presentation. Speakers from hospitals, govt sector and from CBWTF operators participated in the seminar. There was visible concern on BMW management. Kerala has one CBWTF at Palaghat for the whole of the state and services waste from about 60, 000 beds from different hospitals. The seminar was held in a cordial atmosphere and discussions were fruitful. President, ISHWM was also requested to deliver a talk on the second day on sharps management.

International Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) |
A separate department - International Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) has been established at the Min of Tourism, Govt of India. They had an international conference - "Conventions India Conclave" at the HICC, Hyderabad on 1st and 2nd May 2009 in which President, ISHWM was invited, and participated.
The conference was well attended by Indian and Foreign delegates. Aim of the conferences was to bring together the event management companies, and the regular organisers of conferences and seminars. A large number of event management companies participated and interacted with delegates, that is those organising conferences on a regular basis.
President ISHWM had discussions with a number of event managers, and it appeared to be a reasonable prospect to get help of event management companies for ISHWM conferences in the future. The idea is to be deliberated by the Governing Council, ISHWM

Conference: “Indian Healthcare Industry – the Way Forward”
Conference: “Indian Healthcare Industry – the Way Forward” was held at Pragati maidan on the 27th and 28th March. Forenoon session of the conference on 27th was devoted to infection control and BMW management was a part of this. The conference was well attended, and attracted a large number of professionals - NGO, and private hospitals. Along with there was an exhibition on medical equipments from a large number of companies. President, ISHWM and other members attended the conference, and actively participated in discussions."

The conference focused on the nede to prepare for meeting disaster rather than acting without scheme after the disaster has struck. President, ISHWM was invited to the conference. INDIA INTERNATIONAL RECYCLE & WASTE MANAGEMENT EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE' 2008 |

INDIA INTERNATIONAL RECYCLE & WASTE MANAGEMENT EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE' 2008 was organized on 16 - 18th August 2008, by IIRWM at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, INDIA. The conference was supported by ISHWM, and included a session of HCWM.

The conference was a grand success with participants from all over India and also from
countries like Spain, Australia, Colombia, Japan, Italy, Belgium, Russia and United States of America. Highlight of the event was showcasing most advanced technologies, equipments & services on solid waste management, recycle, waste-to energy, health care waste management, hazardous and REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE-REPRODUCE solutions.
The Exhibition & Conference was inaugurated on 16 August' 2008 at Hall 11, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Eminent Speakers like Mrs. Alimtra Patel, Mr. G Wolters (Inspector General, Ministry of VROM, The Govt of Netherlands), Dr. Sharad Kale (Bhaba Atomic Research Centre), Dr. A. S. Rao (Advisor Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt of India), Dr. Mrs. K Vijay Lakshmi (Development Alternatives), Mr. Vinnie Mehta (Executive Director MAIT), Mr. Steven Art (Unimcore Precious Metals Refining, Belgium), Dr. Paul R Holmes (European Union - India Action Plan), Mr. Ravinder Singh (Central Water Commission), Air Mshl Lalji K Verma (President, ISHWM), Dr. K S Baghotia (Dept of Health, Govt of NCT of Delhi, and Secretary, ISHWM), Mr. Dilip Biswas (Ex-Chairman CPCB), Mr. J Huijbregts (VROM Inspectorate, Ministry of the Netherlands) and Dr. Shyam Dighe (CEO Westinghouse Plasma Crop, USA) shared their vision and experience with the delegates. Speakers also dwelled on effective waste management strategies, innovative new technologies, enhancing public-private sector partnership for waste management policies, planning & technology improvements, modern waste management infrastructure, waste minimization, recycle and waste technologies etc.
Highlight of the conference was a large number of exhibitors, about 70 showcasing their product, and participating in the conference. |

The conference concluded on 18th August where Ms Arti Mehra, Hon’ble Mayor of the municipality graced the conference, visited the stalls, and had a round table with the participants.
Organisers felt that there was a need to have an integrated approach to waste management, and are planning to have a consortium approach.
